Marcelle's Crinums

Crinums in East Texas - Notes from Marcelle Sheppard
Sales and Notes from Marcelle Sheppard

Mr. Lester Hannibal was a great help to me in my work to improve Crinums for use in the home garden, making suggestions on what Crinums to use for pod and pollen parents, sending me many of his beautiful hybrids and named varieties, seeds he had crossed with his and my pollen from the Rose City Schoolhouse Scabrums.  He also sent me many of his Amarcrinums, colors from dark rose to light pink and white, as he knew I couldn't bloom the Amaryllis Belladonna here to make my own crosses.

I want to give credit to Luther Bundrandt, who left his Crinum collection for distribution to Crinum hybridizers, and to Steve Lowe who distributed the plants for him.  I feel it was a great honor to inherit some of these beauties.  Steve has also helped me with my hybridizing and has generously shared plants.

Barry Clark, Roy Works who has recently named one of his Crinums for me, and Rodger Croker (deceased) have helped me with Crinums, Amaryllis, Zephyranthes, and Habranthus.  Others include Jerry Seymour, Dave Lehmiller, Herbert Kelly, Mrs. Marty Williams and many others.  I am indebted to all the above and hope I have shown good stewardship of this knowledge to leave the plant world a better place than I found it.
