Crinum xanthophyllum

Mr. Hannibal reported that when he first encountered C. xanthophyllum with its stark yellowish foliage he was surprised and wondered if the plant was virus-infected. Under optimum growing conditions the foliage is an attractive golden color.
Eventually Mr. Hannibal decided it was related (but not closely so) to C. asiaticum. C. xanthophyllum is a reluctant flowerer in East Texas and is frost tender, surviving only in greenhouses. It is not a plant for year-round outdoor growth.
